A walk on the downs in West Berkshire gave us this sleepy tawny owl near Compton. A commotion from small birds in the hedgerow made us stop to see what the fuss was about - and there was the owl, about three metres from the path.
It didn't seem bothered as we rummaged noisily for the camera, and I managed to grab a shot before it opened its eyes wide and flew off. Judging by the continuing alarm calls of small birds, it didn't go far.// posted by Christine @ 10:51 AM
