Just before 6 pm, a firecrest was making its way along a hedgerow in fields on the south side of Taplow village. The bird (a male) was moving westwards, just past the junction with the path to the village centre. I probably wouldn't have seen it if it had kept quiet, but a sharpish, unfamiliar call made me turn and look.

Comments:
Christine, I was in that field about 2hrs before you. I heard a crest calling in the end of that little copse, but couldn't get onto it.Ever since I've found that copse I thought itlooked good for Firecrest. I've been upto the cricket ground several times recently with no luck. There was a big Fieldfare/Redwing flock with 200 starlings over by the horses in that field and they were there yesterday lunchtime. Hoping that new gravel pit will attract Sand Martins. Your Little Owl was probably from the pair that are in the farm on the opposite side of Boundary Rd. Dave
