We woke up to an inch of snow, and after a blizzard of hail we decided to risk a walk. At the end of West Shore Street were two wheatears (first for the year) - though I managed to snap only one.

They were foraging on the road, where the snow had melted to slush; and a rather blurred photo suggested that one of the wheatears had found a centipede.

On the camp-site were 20-30 skylarks, half a dozen ringed plovers, two oystercatchers, several meadow pipits, a redwing - and an unexpected snow bunting.

A great northern diver, still looking rather wintry, was out on the loch, and a flock of turnstones flew past and went down on the golf-course spit.
