It was good to see ten great skuas loafing, preening, and squabbling on Loch Vatachan - here's eight of the ten.

They were fairly vocal but their gruff calls were too distant and faint to record.

An osprey came wandering and jinking - sometimes making small midair dives - across the machair at Achnahaird; and I wondered if it was hawking for insects.

On the drive out, I had another osprey sighting and managed a poor shot from a passing place of what could have been a second individual.

Across the loch, great dark clouds were building from the west, and against them, I could clearly see a house martin hunting high above the water.  I'd hoped for some early returning waders today but I'll happily take a bunch of bonxies, an osprey (or two), and a solitary house martin instead.
