A dark green fritillary was flying around the garden this morning, finally settling for a while on the back wall.
The garden has done quite well this summer for butterflies; I've also seen orange-tipped, speckled wood, large white, peacock, red admiral, painted lady, and (later than usual) a single small tortoiseshell. Yesterday, two adult white-tailed eagles again soared high over the village before moving off to the north - probably the pair that has bred successfully in the area this year. In one of the photos I took two days ago I noticed that one at least of them has been ringed.
